AEA-SPED Caucus Goals:

The AEA Special Education Caucus has been meeting regularly to plan future presentations and round table discussion opportunities for our members. We've encountered a few scheduling difficulties along the way but wanted to share with you some opportunities we'll be scheduling during the first semester of the '08 - '09 school year.

  • Summer '08: Caucus members will work to compile a list of resources which address specific areas within special education ( i.e., mental health , learning disabilities), to be published and shared with members.
  • August/September: Presentation by Lynn Kuhn, M.A., CCC-SLP, Language-Literacy Links Consultant; follow-up to previous RTI presentation to include strategies/case study.
  • Explore the possibility of contributing to /organizing a parent/teacher resource fair.
  • Schedule presentations on Differentiated Instruction, Transition, and/or Discipline through the NEA Special Education Cadre.
  • Schedule a round-table discussion with members around "burning issues" in Special Education.
  • Continue to pursue presenters on other topics of interest to our members.

We would be happy to hear from you with feedback regarding our plans and willingly accept suggestions from you to add to our resource compilation.

The members of the SPED Caucus include: Vicki Reinhard (chair), Laura Henry, Jane Snell, Mary Dowd, Jean Fujino, Ruth McEwen, Kim Culhane
