The AEA Special Education Caucus continues to meet regularly to plan professional development for district staff. An NCUEA grant awarded to the Caucus has provided funds for the presenters at these sessions.

• Compile a collection of professional resources to be made available for member check-out.
• Explore the possibility of contributing to a parent/teacher resource fair.
• Fall, ’09, professional development has been planned and scheduled.
• On-going feedback and discussion with members regarding issues in Special Education.

Topics presented in 2008 – 2009 were: RTI, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Truth in Labeling, and a discussion on Special Education issues.

 

 

• August 24 – Why Do Some English Language Learners Struggle with Reading? Distinguishing Learning Disabilities from Language Acquisition; Janette Klinger.
• September 21 – The Foundational Building Blocks of Literacy: Come and learn how to incorporate explicit, systematic, and practical instructional concepts within your phonemic awareness and phonics lessons at the universal, targeted, and intensive levels using materials you already have in your classroom! -Lynn Kuhn
• October 19 – Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Prenatal Substance Abuse Prevention Outreach; Pam Gillen.
• November 16 – Pedriatic Dyslexia; Katie Johansen.

Each session will be held at ESC 4 (1085 Peoria St.), Conference Room C,
from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
