Welcome from AEA President, Brenna Isaacs

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the 1500 members of the Aurora Education Association, I would like to welcome you to Aurora Public Schools and extend best wishes for a fulfilling and rewarding career as a public school educator. You have chosen a profession where you will make a real difference in the world because as a public school educator you will make a difference in the life of the children you teach.

Among the many important decisions you will make as an educator is the choice to belong to your professional organization. AEA has successfully represented Aurora teachers for over 50 years, advocating for quality education, smaller class size, adequate materials and resources, teacher quality and teaching and learning conditions necessary to deliver 21st century education to our students.

AEA is both an association and a union, and as such represents the best of both worlds for our members. As an association our work focuses on teacher quality, professional development and teaching and learning issues. As a union we work to negotiate competitive salary and benefits and encourage teaching and learning environments that support the optimum conditions for students and teachers to flourish. AEA advocates for the rights and responsibilities of all educators and for an ethical system of quality public education for all students.

AEA is on the cutting edge of many education reform issues. We support National Board certification efforts, and recently negotiated an MOU allowing Pilot schools to be created by interested staff, parents and community members at a particular site. We are learning as well as teaching the profession what works and what doesn't. Teachers know what is necessary to create great public schools for every child, and we are supportive of those efforts.

When you choose to belong to AEA, you join the Colorado Education Association, our state affiliate representing more than 38,000 Colorado educators, and the National Education Association, the largest democratic decision-making body in the world with more than 3.2 million members. As an AEA member you will join fellow educators, in demonstrating that you have a commitment not only to children, but also to the standing and role of teachers in our society.

It is my honor to serve our membership as AEA President. I look forward to meeting you and working with you this year. I invite you to join us in membership and advocacy to create a great public school for every child, and a great work environment for every educator.
